தயாளு அம்மாளுக்கு அமுலாக்கல் பிரிவு உத்தரவு ! மார்ச் 28 தேதி ஆஜாராக வேண்டும்

CHENNAI: The Enforcement Directorate, has summoned Dayalu Karunanidhi, wife of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, in connection with transactions at Kalaignar TV, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Kamal Singh at the directorate of Enforcement had issued the summons on March 18. Dayalu Ammal has been asked to be present at the ED's Delhi office on March 28 at 12 noon either in person or through her authorized representative.

The ED has also sought details into the affairs of Kalaignar TV, a Tamil language general entertainment channel promoted by the family members of Karunanidhi soon after a family feud broke out with the Marans of Sun TV. Dayalu Ammal is the majority shareholder in Kalaignar TV.

Queries raised by the ED include questions pertaining to Dayalu Ammal's ill health yet her near full attendance at board meetings of Kalaignar TV.

Dayalu Ammal had told another investigating agency -- the CBI-- earlier that she can understand only Tamil and cannot read, write, speak or even understand any other language. With that stated position, the agency sought details on who protects her business interest and how she made a windfall profit of more than Rs 100 crore when she sold her stake in Sun TV Network. Dayalu Ammal sold 5.75% stake in Sun TV Network before Sun TV's public issue of shares for nearly Rs 100 crore in October 2005.

Karunanidhi's nephew Amirtham Periyanayagam and director of Kalaignar TV Sharad Kumar have already deposed before the agency. It appears that Dayalu is the last of the Kalaignar TV management officials being summoned in connection with Kalaignar TV's involvement in the 2G scam.

Officials at the ED feel that there exists a bonafide case of money laundering between DB Realty and Kalaignar TV. The summons issued now is a continuation of the multi-agency probe into the money trail in the 2G scam. The CBI, in a chargesheet, said Rs 200 crore connected with the 2G spectrum scam had been routed to Kalaignar TV from a partnership firm of Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa who is also the promoter of DB Realty.

The summons comes at a time when electioneering is building up in the state. Kanimozhi, daughter of Karunanidhi, and A Raja, former union communications minister, were jailed in connection with the scam that rocked DMK out of power in Tamil Nadu. The summons could be crucial ammunition for other parties in the state in a closely fought multi-cornered election.
