The Sri Lanka police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) which is working closely with the State Intelligence Services (SIS) has managed to make several arrests of key LTTE operatives are now in the process of probing their involvement in attempting to promote the defunct terror outfit.
The CID sleuths have received vital information on LTTE suspects who are believed to be part of a LTTE front organization which is carrying out a clandestine Tamil Tiger propaganda campaign from within the country.
The LTTE’s attempt to promote the group internationally comes in the light of the organizations move to promote the Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelaam (PTGTE).
The CID and SIS received intelligence on the attempts made by LTTE fronts operating from overseas in the wake of the arrest of an LTTE captain identified as Sridharan Aynkaran who was attempting to leave the country.
Captain Aynkaran was arrested early this May at a hotel in Mt. Lavinia. Upon interrogation he revealed details of LTTE operatives who are currently living abroad.
Upon his information troops uncovered a book that had contained policies of slain LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabakaran which was found in a house in Pokkanei, Mulaitivu.
Asian Tribune learns that based on information provided by Captain Aynkaran to the CID and the SIS several arrests of these LTTE operatives were made.
On May 26, the CID arrested a key LTTE suspect, on her arrival to Sri Lanka. The woman who is a native from Chilaw had been instrumental in collecting funds in Frankfurt for the LTTE and played a key role in anti-Sri Lanka demonstrations in Germany during the final phase of the last year.
In the early hours of May 27, the Special Task Force (STF) arrested LTTE operatives in Kalmunai and Kalawanchikuddy in a clandestine operation. The two suspects who were arrested were wanted in connection of carrying out an LTTE propaganda campaign in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
The LTTE which was responsible for large scale human rights abuses and killings of civilians were defeated by Sri Lankan government troops last May. The defunct terror outfit is now seen to be making attempts to strengthen its hold in several Western countries despite is yet being a proscribed terrorist organization in several countries.
