இவரது மனைவி மால்வி கேசவன் (35). திருமணமாகி 9 ஆண்டுகள் ஆகின்றன. குழந்தைகள் இல்லை. ஜெயபாலன் தனது மனைவியுடன் ரூர்கேலாவில் உள்ள என்.ஐ.டி. கல்லூரி ஊழியர் குடியிருப்பில் வசித்து வந்தார்.
இந்த நிலையில் கடந்த 2 நாட்களாக ஜெயபாலனின் வீடு உட்புறமாக பூட்டப்பட்டு இருந்தது. இதனால் சந்தேகம் அடைந்த அக்கம்பக்கத்தினர் போலீசாருக்கு தகவல் தெரிவித்தனர். சம்பவ இடத்திற்கு விரைந்து வந்த போலீசார், நேற்று காலை வீட்டின் கதவை உடைத்து உள்ளே சென்று பார்த்தனர்.
அங்குள்ள குளியல் அறையில் ஜெயபாலன் பிணமாக கிடந்தார். படுக்கை அறையில் அவரது மனைவி மால்வி கேசவன் இறந்து கிடந்தார். இறப்பதற்கு முன்பு இருவரும் வாந்தி எடுத்துள்ளதாகவும், இருவரும் விஷம் குடித்து தற்கொலை செய்திருக்கலாம் என்றும் போலீசார் சந்தேகிக்கிறார்கள். உடலை கைப்பற்றிய போலீசார் பிரேத பரிசோதனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்தனர்.
இதற்கிடையே தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்வதற்கு முன்பு பேராசிரியர் ஜெயபாலன் எழுதிய உருக்கமான கடிதம் ஒன்று அவரது வீட்டில் இருந்து கிடைத்தது. அதில், தங்களது சாவுக்கு யாரும் காரணம் இல்லை என்று அவர் தமிழிலும், ஆங்கிலத்திலும் எழுதி உள்ளார். இருப்பினும் தற்கொலைக்கான காரணம் குறித்து போலீசார் தீவிரமாக விசாரணை நடத்தி வருகிறார்கள்.

Sources said the door of the house on the NITR campus was shut for the last two days. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and recovered the bodies.
