Parasakthi hit Tamil society like a bolt from blue. It shook the collective conscience of the Tamils.
People couldn't believe their eyes and ears. They started seeing the magnum opus again and again to memorize the chaste, alliterative Tamil lines spoken in the film by the vibrant and dynamic youngster, newcomer Sivaji Ganesan.

Parasakthi
was originally a play written by Pavalar Balasundaram, a left
intellectual. The film rights were bought by National Pictures Perumal.
He was a disciple of Anna, the founder of Dravida Munnetra Kazhakam DMK.
It was Anna who forced Perumal to caste Ganesan as the lead. Though the
partner AVMeiyappa Chettiar wanted a DMK actor KRRamasamy to play the
protagonist's role, Anna convinced both the producer and the actor that
Sivaji will be better suited for that role. It was Anna who suggested
that Kalaignar Karunanidhi writes the dialogues. And the rest was
History.
Parasakthi challenged every accepted norm of the Tamil society.
The hero attacked the rich. He represented the quintessential Tamil working class.
He spoke for women's rights.
He demolished superstitions.
He almost demonstrated the absence of omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient god.
He decried the hypocrisy of the Tamil society.
At the same time Parasakthi was not a hopelessly pessimistic story that underlined the inability of the reformers.
On the contrary, it was full of optimistic positivism. It said nothing in the world is sacrosanct.
Parasakthi did much more than you expect from a very ordinary commercial Tamil film.
It became a cult classic and changed the mindsets of millions of Tamils, and in a way paved the way for eternal Dravidian rule in Tamil Nadu.
Parasakthi is unparalleled in the annals of commercial cinema.
It broke all the box office records and established a super star, Sivaji, overnight.
Kalaignar Karunanidhi became the last word in Tamil dialogues and no one could match his reach and relevance till date.
Had Parasakthi happened in Bollywood as effectively, RSS might not even have single shaka in the entire country.
They say, the prime duty of art is to show mirror to the society. Parasakthi not only showed the mirror but wiped out the old society in a terrific way.
No single film could ever achieve anywhere in the world, what Parasakthi achieved in Tamil Nadu.
Parasakthi can only be compared with Parasakthi.
