Kathir RS : · This is an Initiative from Bengal!!

Today is a holy day. 65 years ago today, more than 700 of our Tamil brothers and sisters gave their lives to destroy Hindi imperialism. Their sacrifice did not allow India to become a Hindi state. Hindi was not allowed to be the state language of India. Our worst revenge against the oppression is to destroy Hindi imperialism through the united movement of the non-Hindi nations.

Dravidian Languages Day
Background:
When India became independent Hindi was adopted as the official language with English continuing as an associate official language for a period of fifteen years, after which it was decided that Hindi would become the sole official language.
The new Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950.The efforts by the Central Government to make Hindi the sole official language after 1965 was unacceptable to many non-Hindi states, who demanded the continued use of English.
As the marked day approached (26 January 1965), the date decided previously as the date on which Hindi would be made the sole official language, the Anti-Hindi Movement gained momentum in southern states with increased support from college students.
Thousands of protestors protested against enforcing Hindi throughout Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala.Trains were damaged, colleges were shut down and the police had to resort to a lathi charge when the agitation grew violent and the states were brought to a standstill.
The agitations evoked a strong response from people of Tamil Nadu .On 25 January; a full-scale riot broke out in the city of Madurai. The riots spread all over the Southern States, continued unabated for the next two months and lathi charges and firing on student processions became rampant.
Railway cars and Hindi name boards at railway stations were burned down; telegraph poles were cut and railway tracks displaced.
The Government considered the situation as a law and order havoc and brought in para military forces to quell the agitation.Within two weeks around 70 people were killed (by official estimates). Some unofficial reports claimed that about 700 people were killed.
Impact
Expressing shock over the agitation, Central Government assured that English would continue to be used for centre-state and intrastate communications and that the central government examinations for jobs would continue to be conducted in English.
Myth
North hindians & Sanskritians created a myth that only Dravidian Tamil people are against Sanskrit Hindi Imposition.
Conclusion
The Dravidian Languages survived the test of time only because of the deep rooted love and ideology of thousands of people across southern states and the heart wrenching sacrifice of 700 lives.
We must observe Dravidan Language Day across the globe on January 25 every year to respect and honour the martyrdom of the lives lost for the noble cause and to permanently end the continued meticulous scheming to impose Sanskrit and Hindi
We should continue to bring to light these hidden parts of history and our vision for the culturally and linguistically empowered states must be rigorously promoted among youth to ensure that the oldest languages of the world stay alive.
