திருவனந்தபுரம்: கேரளாவில் மன்னர் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். அவரது ரூ. 300 கோடி நகைக்காக இந்தக் கொலை நடந்துள்ளதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. கொல்லப்பட்டவரின் பெயர் ஹரிஹர வர்மா. இவர் மாவேலிக்கரை மன்னர் பரம்பரையைச் சேர்ந்தவர் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. 59 வயதான இவர் திருவனந்தபுரம் புறநகரான வெட்டியூர்காவு என்ற இடத்திற்கு அருகே உள்ள புத்துதூர்கோணம் என்ற இடத்தில் வசித்து வந்தார். இவர் வைர வியாபாரியாக இருந்து வந்தார் திங்கள்கிழமை இவர் கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட நிலையில் வீட்டில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டார். அவரை 3 பேர் கொண்ட கும்பல் கொலை செய்திருக்கலாம் என்று சந்தேகம் எழுந்துள்ளது. மேலும், கொலைக்குப் பின்னர் ஹரிஹர வர்மா வீட்டில் இருந்து ரூ. 300 கோடி மதிப்புள்ள வைரம் மற்றும் தங்க நகைகளை அக்கும்பல் கொள்ளையடித்துச் சென்று விட்டதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது.
சம்பந்தப்பட்ட 3 கொள்ளையர்களில் பிரேம்ராஜ் மற்றும் யோகேஷ் என இருவரை போலீஸார் அடையாளம் கண்டுள்ளனராம். இவர்கள் சென்னையிலிருந்து வைரக் கற்களை வாங்க வந்ததாகவும், ஆனால் கொலை செய்து விட்டு நகைகளுடன் தப்பியுள்ளதாகவும் போலீஸார் கூறுகிறார்கள். கொள்ளையர்கள் சென்னைக்குப் போயிருக்கலாம் என்றும் சந்தேகிக்கப்படுகிறது.
n a sensational heist, Harihara Varma a diamond trader identified as a member of a royal family in Kerala was found murdered and robbed of precious stones worth around Rs.300 crores at his friend's home at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday afternoon.
The murder is reported to have occurred when Varma, who is said to be a member of Mavelikkara royal family, was trying to sell diamonds which he inherited from his family to a gang at the home of his friend advocate Haridas at Kairali Nagar Puthoorkonam in the city.
Haridas who informed the police and relatives of the deceased about the murder, said the gang attacked them during negotiation and suffocated them with a towel soaked in chloroform following which they fell unconscious. He said the gang also tied the limbs.
The murder and heist has shocked the state and Leader of opposition in Kerala assembly V.S. Achuthanandan has demanded a comprehensive probe. He said the murder points to the fact that Thiruvananthapuram has emerged as a nerve centre of a mafia in the diamond industry.
According to Haridas when he regained consciousness he untied himself and found Varma dead. Later he managed to go to a neighbour's house and called the police and relatives of the killed from there.
The police who arrived at the scene following the call confirmed death of Varma. They recovered some diamonds found scattered in the room, cash and a piece of paper in which value of diamonds is noted.
A special team of police headed by deputy commissioner of police, Thiruvananthapuram Putta Vimaladitya is investigating the murder. According to a statement given by Haridas to the police, Varma was killed by two people Yogesh and Premraj with the help of another person.
The police have taken into custody a taxi car driver who took the killers to a nearby railway station. The police have also recovered a plastic bag containing chloroform, cotton and gloves used by killers. There are reports that the killers have escaped to Tamil Nadu.
Differences of opinion in royal family
Meanwhile, differences in Mavelikkara royal family came to the fore following the murder. Senior members of Mavelikkara royal family denied reports that killed Varma belonged to their family.
According to Rama Varma Raja he is not related to their family in anyway. Some of the family members however did not deny knowing him. They said he was involved in many shady deals. In a clarification, brothers in law of the killed Varma said the deceased was the son of Bhaskara Varma, a member of Mavelikkara royal family.
According to brothers in law of the deceased, Varma had threats from his relatives in the royal family. They said they knew that Varma possessed rare diamonds. Varma used to trade in diamonds and had business stakes in Mumbai and Chennai. Varma is said to be an engineer by profession and had been in England initially before he returned to India
