L.R.Jagadeesan : Caste-based reservations are a bare-minimum form of social justice. But it's a very effective one. Thanks to 100- years of Dravidian movement/rule, Tamil Nadu emerged as the leader in implementing the maximum percentage of caste-based reservations in entire India. And became a classic case for other states to follow in implementing inclusive growth — political, social, educational, economical, cultural and empowered gender justice. Its an extraordinary success story in every sense of it and under any yardstick.
But that enormous edifice is slowly crumbling. Not only because of the Delhi sultanate’s sustained attack, sabotage and subjugation but also due to the active collusion by the very castes that benefitted out of social justice politics and their self-serving caste “leaders”(sick).
Edappaadi K Palanisamy and O Panneerselvam, hailing from two backward castes benefitted the most from these very reservations are wreaking havoc to the basics of reservation policy. In their 4-year rule, lakhs of Tamil Nadu youth lost their rightful educational/employment opportunities within Tamil Nadu. Unimaginable scandal hardly evokes any outrage among Tamil Nadu youth. Now they are actively destabilising the very basic foundations of 69% reservations. It's a dangerous political ploy with serious consequences. At this rate, 69% of reservation in Tamil Nadu may not survive beyond a decade.
Along with EPS/OPS duo, two MEDICAL DOCTORS are real villains in this social justice self-destruction spree -- Dr Ramadoss in the north and Dr Krishnasamy in the south. Both masqueraded as champions of social justice in the beginning, but slowly injected the venom of caste-pride into the state’s socio-political sphere. With RSS-Modi governments active collusion and enormous funding, the attack on Dravidian edifice seems to be reaching a crescendo. Hope Tamil Nadu and its unique social justice political model survive this unprecedented attack. Wishful thinking?
